A Most Beautiful Spot on the Indian Ocean

In front of us a fantastic view over the sea, some 20m above the cliffs, below an exclusive little beach with palms where we had a pre breakfast swim. Freshly baked home made bread, goat cheese from France and castagna jam from the South of Switzerland, a Greek salad, and home made tuna quiche stood on the table, and steaming fresh cappuccino in our cups. These are moments on the terrace of “The Bean”, a to be rented Beach House 30km South of Dar es Salaam, that simply can only be described as divine. Food you have to bring from Dar and prepare yourself, however the kitchen with a great bar seating for drinks invites to be a chef, a cosy canapĂ© corner at the entrance awaits you for a little afternoon nap, and beautifully decorated rooms in bright blue and red sleep a maximum of eight, plus a baby. To rent the place for a week end (2 nights) costs 500US$, contact Liria Tel. 0754 33 70 33, e-mail: thebean@afsat.com, Liria@afsat.com or John Tel. 0754 60 64 00 or Godfrey, the local house manager (who keeps Liria’s phone, if she is absent) for bookings. To reach the place, cross the harbour of Dar es Salaam by Ferry, follow the road straight South for 25km, turn left at the Amani Protea Hotel sign into a dirt track, and after about 2km turn right where a little yellow sign post with a Sea Eagle indicates Ras Kiroko and you are almost there. The road is drivable even after heavy rains, as the terrain is flat and sandy.
